Semana Santa in Cádiz

This past week we had time off from work for Semana Santa. We decided it was time to get out of the city and explore a new part of Spain. Cádiz, a beautiful beach city in the south of Spain, is where we set off to.
While studying abroad in Granada two years ago we went to Cádiz for Carnaval. Cádiz is known for having one of the biggest celebrations, so we wanted to experience it! But the one night trip turned into a disaster. We had found ourselves freezing in a terrential downpour, without a hotel room. And to top it off, poor Maggie broke her foot early in the evening. So needless to say, we didn´t leave Cádiz with good feelings. But everyone we spoke to about Cádiz raved about how wonderful it was so we knew we had to give it a second chance!
After this trip, Cádiz easily became one of our favorite spots in Spain.
Apart from being in a beautiful city and soaking up the sun for a week, we were also fortunate to meet lots of great people! Due to the busy travel time, the only room left in the hostel was a ten person bedroom, leaving 6 spots for strangers. I was not too excited about having to share a room with 6 strangers but it ended up being a blast and we made lots of new friends. The remaining 6 spots were occupied by Italians, but coincidentally they also live in Madrid! Also, in the hostel we made friends with British, German, French and Turkish people. They all live in Madrid and some even live on our street! Such a small world!
